4AD is very excited to announce the release of the next Efterklang album. Their fourth, Piramida, will be out on September 25th. The making of Piramida started out in unusual fashion in August 2011, when the members of Efterklang went on an audio expedition to an abandoned Russian settlement just shy of the North Pole. Spitsbergen is home to more polar bears than people and also to the ghost town of Piramida, which was abandoned overnight in the 90s, and today stands as a slowly decaying ruin. Along with discovering the world’s northernmost grand piano, the trio spent nine days exploring and recording the sounds that would inspire and build the songs on Piramida. With Piramida as their inspiration, Efterklang returned to their studio in Berlin, Germany (the band relocated from their native Copenhagen in 2011). Fashioning these collected sounds into a unified album was no easy task and, like alchemists, the band carefully extracted selected noises and used them to construct traditional musical scales of rhythms and melodies, like a working instrument. For example, the organ sounds on “Sedna” are actually a combination of synthesized recordings from an empty fuel tank and the aforementioned grand piano. Ornate glass lamps provide the tones in “Told To Be Fine”, whilst the very first refrain of album opener “Hollow Mountain” are the sounds of protruding metal spikes being struck from an oil tank (nicknamed “Miss Piggy”)With these manipulated sounds serving as the tools and framework to work within, the band began writing the songs, adding and layering them with more traditional sonic components, with contributions from Peter Broderick (violin), Earl Harvin (drums), Nils Frahm (piano), brass from the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, and a 70-piece girls choir. Their first North American show in two years will take place a few days before the album’s release at the majestic Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York on September 22nd. The band will perform with the 19- piece Wordless Music Orchestra. A full tour will follow in early 2013. Дэвид Бирн и St. Vincent (Энни Кларк) познакомились в 2009 году на благотворительном вечере в Нью-Йорке Мероприятие в Нью-Йорке. Вскоре после этого бывший фронтмен группы Talking Heads и гитарист-виртуоз Гитарист-виртуоз, игравший, в частности, в гастрольных группах Суфьяна Стивенса и The Polyphonic Spree, впервые сотрудничали в рамках проекта по оказанию помощи ВИЧ-инфицированным. Им понравилось вместе заниматься музыкой Музыку вместе и решили "писать музыку на основе духовой группы" и "обмениваться идеями в любой форме обмениваться идеями в любой форме: Мелодии без текстов или даже песни без готовых мелодий", как рассказывает Кларк.

Результатом этой работы стал альбом "Love This Giant", отличающийся взрывной духовой секцией и ритмами взрывная духовая секция и биты, созданные номинированным на "Грэмми" продюсером Джоном Конглтоном (Modest Mouse, Erykah Badu, Antony & The Johnsons). Хотя духовые аранжировки доминируют во всем альбоме, "Love This love This Giant" - это тяжелый, зажигательный и во всех отношениях современный поп-альбом поп-альбом. Десять из двенадцати песен были написаны совместно Бирном и Кларком, а две другие - одним из двух выдающихся исполнителей двух выдающихся исполнителей.

Записанный в течение двух лет в студии Water Music в Хобокене, штат Нью-Джерси, альбом представляет собой совместную работу в самом прямом смысле этого слова: Бирн и Сент-Винсент (она же Энни Кларк) стали соавторами десяти из двенадцати композиций альбома, и каждый из артистов написал по одной песне. В центре альбома - взрывной духовой оркестр, а движущей силой является барабанная программа Джона Конглтона.

"Не было никакого разграничения ролей", - объясняет Кларк. "Это совместная работа, которой я по-настоящему горжусь" Дуэт также разделил лирические и вокальные обязанности на пластинке, которая, несмотря на отказ от традиционного состава гитара/бас/барабаны в пользу идиосинкразических роговых аранжировок, предстает как заразительный и современный рок, наполненный крюками.

Бирн и Кларк познакомились в 2009 году на благотворительном вечере "Dark Was the Night" в Radio City Music Hall и вскоре после этого получили предложение от книжного магазина Housing Works о совместной работе над музыкальным вечером. Они начали сочинять музыку дистанционно, обмениваясь идеями и структурами песен в Интернете, пока Кларк гастролировала, и быстро стало очевидно, что у них есть нечто большее, чем просто один музыкальный вечер. Бирн выступил с Кларк на ее шоу "American Songbook" в Линкольн-центре в 2010 году, а Кларк приняла участие в записи альбома Бирна "Here Lies Love", выпущенного в том же году.
