Franco Ambrosetti celebrated his 75th birthday in the studio in Brooklyn with his musical friends, who have accompanied him on his long career. The result is not randomly CHEERS, when the recording in the System Two Studio in Brooklyn, NY was a happy birthday mood. The friends, illustrious guests, who immediately became enthusiastic when they were invited, came to the extraordinary quartet Franco Ambrosetti / Kenny Barron / Buster William / Jack DeJohnette. Franco grew up in a jazz-fueled family, his father Flavio played Alt Saxophon as a guest with Lionel Hampton's band and became swinging Bebop Pioneer in Europe after hearing a concert with Charlie Parker in 1947. After a key experience with the Stan Kenton orchestra, Franco wanted to learn the trumpet, after a year of self-study Franco was ready and accepted as a professional. Charlie Mingus and Stan Kenton wanted to oblige him but Papa Flavio insisted that Franco first studied finished. Franco soon began his industrial career (AMBROSETTI TECHNOLOGIES) and at the same time his musical path. New this time is that there are only two original compositions by Ambrosetti on CHEERS, otherwise well-known standards - but how are they played and interpreted! Here Franco finds his high art, in a song like Bye Bye Blackbird or Autumn Leaves his improvisational stalem bloom to let. Great contributions by friends such as John Scofield, Uri Caine, Antonio Faraò, Randy Brecker or Greg Osby, Franco's son Gianluca or his Italian pianist for many years Dado Moroni. Francy's drastic driving drums Corrida, Terry Lyne Carrington, plays for the first time with her great role model Jack DeJohnette. Franco has been intensively linked to ENJA for over 38 years. Albert Mangelsdorff, the German trombonist who died aged 76 last year, helped burst open the sonic possibilities and athleticism of a famously lethargic instrument. German label Skip Records has issued the 1979 Hamburg live recording with Norwegian bass star Arild Andersen and Swiss drummer Pierre Favre that Mangelsdorff called "the most thrilling trio recording" of his career. It sat in the vaults for a quarter-century, but the music is so vivacious, you'd have thought they could have heard it fizzing away deep in the box. Both Mangelsdorff and Andersen bring a remarkable lightness and delicacy to their heavyweight instruments. The title track's rocking riff hints at Mangelsdorff's trad-jazz apprenticeship, his trombone descending to a tuba's depths, and the free-floating Soulbird mingles didgeridoo-like huffing, Mangelsdorff's famous blown-and-sung harmony playing and Andersen's lithe bass variations. The threesome rockets through most of its awesome arsenal on the 14-minute Warbling Warbler, from bop-swing and free improv to timbral adventures that sound as if six musicians were playing rather than three. The themes are whimsically gripping; they make terrific springboards for improvising, and Favre is both a percussion sorcerer and a lightly dancing swinger. Trombone, bass and drums may not sound like a promising combination, but this is cutting-edge jazz-improv with an idiosyncratically buoyant lyricism. Record Label: Skip Records Style: Jazz

Through the Sparkle is a collaboration between French ensemble astrïd and American pianist and composer Rachel Grimes. Rachel Grimes is best known for her chamber music project Rachel’s, a hugely influential group formed in 1991 in Louisville, Kentucky, releasing six studio albums between 1995 and 2005. She has also released a string of contemporary classical works in recent years on labels such as Temporary Residence. astrïd is a collective of four musicians based in Nantes, releasing records on Rune Grammofon and Home Normal. After years of mail and email back and forth over the ocean, from Nantes to Kentucky, astrïd invited Rachel to come for a residency to make music together and play shows in France. They gathered for a few days, here and there, in 2012 and 2013 to write songs in Cyril and Vanina's home studio in the countryside. The compositions found on Through the Sparkle glow with a unique, connected energy and a pure, instinctive musical understanding. Considered contributions from all sides allow the pieces to unfurl naturally. Each note and phrase feels like it simply couldn’t be placed anywhere else in the album. Charming, gentle and cinematic sounds are found here in abundance. Melodies circle and reveal themselves without force, allowing the listener to focus and explore the depths of what is on offer. Musically, Through the Sparkle is an expansive and evocative album. There is a presence to be felt throughout, from Cyril Secq’s emotive tremelo’d guitars of M5 to the darker, more haunting mood of The Theme, to the tension in Mossgrove & Seaweed. Strings and woodwind coalesce around intricate piano and guitar movements creating a wealth of harmony and melancholy. Through the Sparkle is a record of miniature symphonies, of elegant restraint. After a five-year gap, Matti "Keisari" Oiling's group Oiling Boiling returned to the studio. Matti Oiling Happy Jazz Band (1970) and Oiling Boiling (1972) had raised expectations, but for a number of reasons the group did not manage to consolidate its recording career. Their stint with the biggest recording company in Finland, Fazer Finnlevy, had come to an end, and the line-up of the group was constantly changing. Also, their flirtation with a wide range of music styles, from jazz and other African-American rhythms to pop and folk, had not made Oiling Boiling's profile very audience-friendly. Matti Oiling, however, was not one to give up. The multinational recording company CBS had established a branch in Finland in 1976. Maybe they were interested in jazz? Even though CBS started its activities in Finland gradually and concentrated on Finnish entertainment music, known as "iskelmä", the door was left slighly ajar for other musical explorations. In 1977, they released six LPs, one of which was Two Faces by Oiling Boiling. Svart Records are proud to finally reissue this gravely neglected album, just in time for its 40th birthday. Выпустив альбом "OC DC", Get The Blessing снова не поддаются простым классификациям. От бодрящего, зажигательного заглавного трека, с которого все начинается, до воющей, кинематографической заключительной композиции "Pentopia", "OC DC" излучает энергию и изобретательность на каждом шагу. По словам саксофониста Джейка МакМерчи, "этот LP одновременно более эзотеричен и физически осязаем, и в то же время более тщательно проработан", сохраняя при этом фирменную смесь сильных мелодических идей, диких ритмических заморочек, жестких композиционных структур и свободных импровизаций. Наряду с джазовыми корнями, в Get The Blessings прослеживаются и другие разнообразные влияния. Говоря о том, что в 2008 году группа получила премию BBC Jazz Award в номинации "Лучший новый альбом", а именно All Is Yes, басист Джим Барр сказал: "Мы были полными аутсайдерами, участниками панка" Сравнение с панком тоже не надуманно, учитывая трэшевые ритмы и качающие риффы, а также непочтительный и озорной настрой.
