That's a very poignant song for me." And then there's "Undone," a heart-wrenching ballad written in a burst of inspiration that he describes as "very pure" and untainted. "I'm really proud of that song," Rossdale says. "It has none of the pressure of outside forces and white noise. I stayed true to it." In many ways, with Bush's new album, Rossdale is creating the type of music-and the world-he hopes to see. As he explains, The Kingdom is a utopic ideal-a reaction to a world full of "judgement and self-righteousness and mob mentality and where everyone knows better than everyone else." Over the years, the composer David Moore has led the malleable classical group Bing & Ruth through all kinds of different explorations. Most recently, that resulted in 2017’s No Home Of The Mind. Now, Moore’s about to return with a new collection. Titled Species, it’s an album that delves into a variety of trance-like states, influenced by Moore spending time in the desert and his newfound love of long-distance running. Stereogum Sessions: Johanna Warren Part of the album’s genesis came from time Moore spent away from his home in New York, in California’s Point Dume. “I’d found myself in places unfamiliar enough that I could easily lose all sense of direction, size, and, more than anything, all sense of time,” Moore explained in a statement. “The music I was making became a kind of reflection of these intentional detachments — and a place to mirror that feeling of trance that had pushed them out in the first place.” Though its music has abstract, spiritual concerns, Species also found Bing & Ruth limiting the structures of their work. The album is dominated by the Farfisa organ, with accompaniment by clarinet and double bass played by founding members Jeremy Viner and Jeff Ratner. Trance experiences, and “submitting to the wave” of them, was very much on Moore’s mind. “I suppose what I was moving towards was a way to feel small — a way to feel deeply humble,” he said. “I had always made music in search of some sort of inner peace, but I no longer cared so much to comfort myself. I’d grown tired, it seemed, of looking inward. I wanted to look nowhere.” Along with the announcement, Bing & Ruth have shared “I Had No Dream.” As a first glimpse of Species, it delivers on all the promises of the album’s thematic aims. It’s a spacious, meditative drone, dotted by melodies that flicker like mirages in the deserts that birthed this music. Check it out below.

This Willie record is an especially happy moment for us, as it marks our first wholly independent release, and we couldn’t be more proud to present it to you here.Willie made one of the great debut bedroom records in ‘People And Their Dogs’, which we were huge fans of and felt very lucky in the wake of that to get a chance to work him, firstly on the follow EP ‘666 Kill’, and latterly on this album. It's a real privilege/responsibility to have our label associated with Willie's music and to put it out into the world, but something we’ve taken to with real fervour.Twin Heavy was recorded in a couple of wildly productive weeks at Echo Zoo Studios in Eastbourne with producer Loren Humphries (Florence And The Machine, Last Shadow Puppets, Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala).It was a hard collection to land on because Willie has a habit of writing a new song every week, almost always an evolution and improvement on the last. It’s not a bad problem to have but something as a label you have to be mindful of when contextualising a piece of his work. We eventually settled on a selection and the band recorded straight to tape. The life and simultaneous naivety and nous captured in this have really made us feel like we’re sitting on a special little secret ever since we first heard it.Willie spent his teens with his ambitions set on a life as an amateur boxer but an introduction to the music of Neil Young set him on an accidental path of discovering he had a very natural ease with melody. As he told us, it suddenly felt like a better alternative than being punched in the head every day. We’ve been really excited to see him grow over the last few months into an artist really capable of voicing his leftfield eccentricities alongside his very natural classic song writing.This final collection of songs feels to us like all the very best stuff from this last year of writing and recording...and, in our opinions and set against the chaos, a total relief to be in the company of.Thank you for all your support up until now and we hope you love this as much as we do
