The concept album 'Tommy' is considered one of the highlights in the artistic work of The Who and especially Pete Townshends, who composed almost all the tracks on the album. May 1969 Tommy was released as a double LP by Track Records in Great Britain. It reached number 2 in the charts and the band went on tour afterwards to present the album live. This Digipak double CD contains a recording from Amsterdam on September 29th of the same year. It is the only complete soundboard recording from 1969 and was played by AVRO-FM on the radio at the time.

Due to the competition from the USA and England, Heavy Metal made in Germany was often not noticed in the eighties. When the only LP of the Berlin band Sudden Death was released in 1987, the speed and thrash wave as well as the softer hair metal groups were also popular. Today, however, headbangers love the bands that were caught between two stools 30 years ago. For an original of „All Or Nothing“ you have to dig deep into your pockets and even a Russian CD bootleg has its costs. That‘s over now, because Golden Core is now releasing a unique CD of the band, which contains the LP (remastered) and all recordings. In 1986 SUDDEN DEATH produced three tracks with Harris Johns in the Music Lab Studio, who also sat at the mixing desk on „All Or Nothing“. There were never any mangy rehearsal room demos on Sudden Death. They always produced at full throttle. The CD also contains a rare live song recorded at the “Bunderrockfestival” in 1986, as well as three tracks by the follow-up band Wolfpack, professionally recorded in a studio. The booklet tells the history of Sudden Death, and also contains many rare photos and illustrations. Trendless, powerful Heavy Metal can‘t sound better!

The German stoner/punkrock quartet STEREOLITH presents their debut album "escape velocity". The seven songs were produced and mixed by Kurt Ebelhäuser, known from Blackmail and Scumbucket, among others, in his recording studio45. After two albums, the Swedes in STARBLIND had to cope with a change of vocalist in 2016. But the newly acquired Marcus S. Olkerud did splendid work on the third album. An album that already shows the direction of where the quintet is headed with their fourth work 'Black Bubbling Ooze'. Wonderful twin guitar runs by the duo Björn Rosenblad and Johan "J.J" Jonasson are a shining example of Melodic Metal. The hammering bass lines provided by Daniel Tillberg together with the thunderous drum works by Zakarias Wikner create a solid and heavy foundation that gets your heart pounding. In addition, the vocals manage to steer the eight compositions into the classic vein of true Heavy Metal. Of course, comparisons to IRON MAIDEN are inevitable this time as well, but at this level of quality, other formations of a similar nature must make a strong impression to compare.

This is a great, understated album that merits repeated plays. Gimme Fiction is Spoon's loosest, most eclectic effort yet. While still sounding like themselves, the Austin-based band manages to evoke a number of other artists on their fifth full-length. (It's a neat trick.) On proto-glam opener "The Beast and Dragon, Adored," Britt Daniels channels the David Bowie of The Man Who Sold the World. Then there's slinky jam "I Turn My Camera On," where he conjures up Prince or Mick Jagger, circa "Miss You," by singing in a higher register. As indicated by the title, "Sister Jack" sounds like early Who (i.e. "Happy Jack"), while "They Never Got You" sounds like Plastic Ono Band-era John Lennon. Do all these different styles hang together? For the most part: yes. After the triumph of Kill the Moonlight, Spoon could have easily rested on their laurels and issued another album just like it, but Gimme Fiction proves they would rather evolve than stagnate. —Kathleen C. Something happened to Spoon between records five and six—they got big. It's not as if these unprepossessing Texans were unpopular before, but afterGimme Fiction, their music was everywhere. There was Britt Daniel, who has since moved to Oregon, singing karaoke on cult favorite Veronica Mars, there was his soundtrack for deadpan Will Ferrell vehicle Stranger Than Fiction, and then there were the countless times their tunes, especially 2002's "The Way We Get By," appeared in other movies and TV shows. The irony is that they hadn't signed to a major label (they tried that in the 1990s; it didn't take). Nor had they given their sound a major overhaul. Maybe it was a change of publicist, or maybe the times had simply caught up with these "faux punks/gentlemen dudes." In any case, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is the mark of men confident enough to give their album one of the world's goofiest titles (at least it's an improvement over Queen's "Radio Ga Ga"). If Gimme Fiction was a transitional work, record number six moves even further away from the angularity of Wire and other early influences. "The Ghost of You Lingers," for instance, is downright dreamy, while "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" is brass-bedecked power-pop (with chimes!). Open-minded listeners will surely find this Beatlesque song cycle irresistible. Fans of the Spoon's darker, more dramatic material might want to check their expectations at the door. They'll be glad they did

Spice's Self-Titled debut album offers a deliberate isolation of pain as interpreted through different vehicles. Less than 30-minutes in length, the record diverts from a singular mood, tempo, or delivery, instead focusing on orchestrating emotional drain as single impulses "fast, slow, driving, simple, and layered" that coalesce in their machinations. At its core, Spice's Self-Titled album is wired together by brawny and brittle guitars, lock-groove rhythms, and vocals announce each moment and mood. Formed in 2018 and based across California, each members' roots are in the North Bay of San Francisco. Comprised of Ross Farrar (vocals) and Jake Casarotti (drums), both of Ceremony, along with Cody Sullivan (bass), Ian Simpson (guitar), and Victoria Skudlarek (violin), Spice's sound pulls from the sense of melody and drive inherent to Bay Area pedigree, peppered with modernity and awash with an anthemic haze. The hook is in the connection as much as melody, with each song building its inner narrative and exploration of affliction. Traversing guitar-driven indie-pop and call-to-action impulse, Spice balances their urgency by interspersing violin melodies and layers, creating depth without oversaturating the heart of each song. Building complexity with laser focus, Spice shares the authoritative drive of Jawbreaker, J Church, The Horrors, and Fugazi, set in their own world of unrest. The treatment of each song is a statement that informs the whole - anecdotes that can bleed slowly or swirl quickly. In a sense, the Self-Titled album itself is an entire song, with each track becoming the verses, choruses, and interludes that narrate its intent. Ending with the final track they workshopped for the album titled "I Don't Wanna Die in New York," the album ends with a punch before winding back into meditation. Honed over late nights at Panda Studios in Fremont, California with producer Sam Pura (Basement, The Story So Far, Self Defense Family), Spice spent hours tweaking it until it became a little world formed by what they refer to as "the power of groupthink." Sprinkled with field recordings "audio snapshots from the member's every-day-lives" the record offers an intimate twist that builds on its theme of a single thread that connects everything with continuity, making it a single organism with as many depths as questions.
