Johnson’s productions Features some of the biggest Jamaican hits from 1968 to 1972By the close of the Sixties, record retailer and jukebox businessman Karl ‘J.J.’ Johnson was firmly established as one of Jamaica’s leading record producers, having released a string of best-selling rock steady and proto-reggae 45s by such noted local acts as Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, the Rulers, Carl Dawkins, the Kingstonians and the Ethiopians.Early in 1969, a lucrative agreement with British record label, Trojan, emboldened the ambitious entrepreneur to release an album comprising a dozen of his latest recordings in the new reggae style. Entitled “Reggae Power”, the LP was dominated by regular hit-makers, the Ethiopians, whose recent singles had proved so popular in Britain that the group had been prompted to make a promotional tour of the country. Their trip led to Trojan dramatically reworking the ‘Reggae Power’ long-player for its UK release, replacing all but two non-Ethiopians tracks with further J.J.-produced works by the trio, before issuing it in new artwork.But with the Ethiopians collection already available on the Doctor Bird CD, “Reggae Power & Woman Capture Man”, it is the Jamaican version of the album that provides the inspiration for this exciting double-disc compilation, which collects the bulk of J.J. Johnson’s output from 1968 to 1972, including numerous reggae hits and 17 recordings new to CD

Although its roots and influences would stretch much farther, the bands that are loosely bound together under the banner the “New Wave Of British Heavy Metal” (or NWOBHM), flourished across the UK from the late 1970s and well into the 1980s. Spearheaded by the likes of Diamond Head, Saxon and the Tygers Of Pan Tang, as this set illuminates, this underground scene was fertile and highly influential, producing many future rock legends. By the end of the 1970s, the original trio of British hard rock heroes Zeppelin, Purple and Sabbath had either graduated to the arenas of the world, or split up, whilst the second wave of British heavy rockers, including UFO, Motörhead and Judas Priest were beginning to fill major venues across the UK. Punk exploded in 1977, and the DIY approach that sprang up in its wake soon influenced the grassroots metalheads who had yet to leave their local pubs and clubs. Often independently released, some of the bands in this set never made more than one now highly prized and collectible 45 or one-off EP. As a sequel and companion piece to 2018’s “NWOBHM: WINDS OF TIME” anthology, we now unleash “NWOBHM THUNDER”. This 3CD collection contains 44 tracks from the golden age of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, from 1978 - 1986. As well as better known acts that stood at the vanguard of this very British movement, including Girlschool, Samson, Venom and Iron Maiden’s ex-frontman Paul Di’Anno, this set mines even deeper for those precious heavy metal nuggets, including many rarities and obscurities. Those lesser known rockers include the likes of Siege, Midas, Demon Pact and Tarot.

Reissue of the 5th installment of the hugely popular 'Now That's What I Call Music' series. Now 5 was originally released in August 1985 and it kicks off with Duran Duran‘s Bond theme, ‘A View To A Kill’, although it doesn’t feature the song that kept Duran off number one in the UK singles charts which was Paul Hardcastle‘s ’19’. What it does include is the Rory Bremner-led spoof version of that song, ‘N-n-nineteen Not Out’, which was credited to ‘The Commentators’. It later turned out that Hardcastle actually helped them put this together but was under strict orders to keep it a secret. The Dead's fifth album, released June 14, 1970. It was the first album they released that year, with [m=18442] released later that November. The album was a return to the folk, blues, and old-time music of the jug bands that were the traditional roots of the Grateful Dead, but the songs were all Garcia/Hunter compositions. Barbara is the third studio album by American drag queen, comedian, and singer-songwriter Trixie Mattel. Mattel is known for being the winner of the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, and for placing sixth on the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race

With her extraordinary voice she was very popular in the punk rock scene and in 1982 Toyah was voted best singer at the "British Rock and Pop Awards". Toyah brought twelve titles into the British charts. Her most famous song in Germany was 'I Want to Be Free'. In 1985 she separated from her band and recorded solo albums (also with the help of her husband Robert Fripp). One project of the singer together with Bill Rieflin and Chris Wong was Toyah & The Humans. The group describes their style as "European experimental meets West Coast American grunge". Musical director Chris Wrong and multi-instrumentalist Bill Rieflin (King Crimson, REM, Ministry; Lard, Swans, Nine Inch Nails), who died in March, have recorded a total of four albums with the singer since 2007: 'We Are Humans', 'Sugar Rush', 'Strange Tales' and the live album 'Live At Scala London'. The valuable box dedicated to Rieflin contains these albums partly with bonus tracks and as shapely digipaks. Also included is a 40-page booklet with detailed liner notes about this exciting project. The DVD also includes a concert recording from 2015 with 21 songs and a bonus feature with 4 promo videos. All four albums are also released as LPs. Three Queens in Mourning first gathered in summit to sing celebration of the publication of Will Oldham's book of collected lyrics, Songs of Love and Horror. Alasdair Roberts (Appendix Out), Jill O' Sullivan (Jill Lorean), and Alex Neilson (Trembling Bells, Alex Rex) each arrived provisioned with a small armful of selections nearest and dearest from Bonnie Prince Oldham's far-reaching catalogue. Three Queens in Mourning's takes on these tunes follow naturally from the fit between Will's words and their threedistinctive voices. Alasdair Roberts' sweet, guileless delivery of "Christmas Time in the Mountains" amplifiesthe lacerating quality of the lyric "we need an enemy / I'm saving all my rage for you"; even if at the outset of the song we're told that "time is the enemy," the abiding sentiment-the red-hot word that organizes my memory of the song-is rage. Ali's and Jill's trading of verses on "New Partner" puts a different spin on what had previously registered as an especially mercurial first-person narrative voice, one that swoops between tenderness ("lay back, rest your head on my thighs") and ecstatic self-absorption (breaking it to the ex to whom the song is addressed that "I've got a new partner riding with me"). Add Alex's voice, not only for his madcap "Lost Blues," but as part of the choir on "Ohio River Boat Song" (a song with origins in the traditional "Loch Tay Boat Song"), and these three Scottish accents singing about the muddy Ohio, Smoketown, Oldham County, and Floyds Knobs, I mean, there's not much else this Kentuckian-these are all deeply familiar landmarks-can say. Polymath percussionist Thor Harris inaugurated Thor & Friends in the autumn of 2015 after five years of touring as the percussionist of iconic avant-rock ensemble Swans. The project is intended as a vehicle for experimentation with the conceptual vocabulary of American Minimalism collaborating with a rotating cast of Austin-based musicians. The ensemble has three core members, Thor Harris, Peggy Ghorbani and Sarah 'Goat' Gautier âÇ" with its line-up expanding and contracting with the flux of compositional and improvisational contexts. Thor & Friends draws on classic Minimalist composers, including Terry Riley and Steve Reich, but also amalgamate such diverse influences as Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Moondog and The Necks around a polyrhythmic core of mallet-struck instruments, primarily marimba, xylophone and vibraphone. Circling these core motifs are shifting streams of everything from processed pedal steel and analog synthesizer to violin, viola, stand-up bass, clarinet, duduk and oboe. Thor & Friends, '3' is, naturally, the band's third LP. Initially put out as part of Joyful Noise Recordings, 2019 Artist in Residence, it is now being released far and wide through Joyful Noise. Thor writes, "This record was made over several years and in many locations. Only by the grace of the brilliant Jeremy Barnes was it all sewn together into this fantastic tapestry of sound you are lucky to now behold." Musicians who played on this record include, Jennifer Wasner, Tuvan throat singing is Soriah, Jeremy Barnes and Heather Trost of A Hawk and a Hacksaw, John Dieterich from Deerhoof, Thierry Amar and Tim Herzog from Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Adam Torres, Michael Gira, Jarboe, Stine Janvin Motland, John Congleton and many others.

Vespertine is the musical score that THIS WILL DESTROY YOU composed for Chef Jordan Kahn’s 2-Michelin Star restaurant of the same name. The score originally ran exclusively at the physical site of the restaurant in Culver City, California, since its grand opening in late 2017. The program consists of seven pieces specifically written for moments within the building itself (and even the space around and on top of it). The sequencing of the album is an attempt to mimic the order in which diners at Vespertine encounter different spaces throughout their experience. “Rumble” is the ever-present hum and ominous force surrounding the immediate exterior of the building. “Entrance” signifies the crossing over from the terrestrial realm into the inner atmosphere of “The Waffle” structure, where the evening begins to unfold. “Kitchen” is an warm, hospitable piece that accompanies a personal encounter with Chef Kahn. “Rooftop” and its celestially-inspired movements often pair perfectly with clear nights atop The Waffle. “Dining Room” sets the tone for a multi-course main dinner service. “Exit” is another transitional piece signifying the end of the main service and setting the stage for a supplemental experience. Finally, “Garden” welcomes diners back into a semi-terrestrial realm wherein afterdinner sweets and beverages accompany reflection upon the evening’s moments, all in full view of the looming architectural monolith that is The Waffle.

Thee MVPs are an incredibly focused, close knit group of friends who have found a sound that is completely their own whilst operating on their own terms. Fiercely independent and known for their remarkably hardworking ethics, the band have already played over 350 shows internationally touring across the US, playing three UK tours (one supporting Flat Worms), performing at a ridiculous 17 SXSW shows in 6 days including Desert Daze and Levitation, and supporting the likes of Surfbort, METZ, Twin Peaks, Ty Segall, Meatbodies, Dead Meadow, CFM, Night Beats, ORB and more. This live album stunningly and faithfully reflects the complexity of The Gods’ sound from the first song ‘Entre en matière’ to the last track of the album ‘Everythem’. There is absolutely no doubt that this live album will leave you spellbound. The Young Gods’ latest album ‘DATA MIRAGE TANGRAM’ was born in a basement amidst people. Franz Treichler (lyrics, guitar, electronics), Cesare Pizzi (sampling, electronics) and Bernard Trontin (drums, percussion) accepted Cully Jazz’s invitation to set up on the stage of the THBBC wine cellar for an open laboratory for the duration of the festival. “That’s when the songs appeared”, says Treichler. “We didn’t know where we were going. Bernard brought an old sampler on top of his drums, Cesare, a laptop, me, a guitar, a bass, a laptop... anything I had on hand. The audience came and went. We didn’t feel obliged to present a finished product. It was really stimulating.
