In a few years Call Super’s versatility has marked the London born DJ and producer as one of the brightest new lights on the electronic music landscape. His rise has been steady and remarkable, reinforced at every stage with music that draws on a panoply of influences. The son of a New Orleans jazz clarinettist, his curiosity for music was driven by a childhood playing Spanish guitar and the piano before being anointed as a teenager into the London club scene. For JR Seaton this mix is highly personal; it eschews the common computer based approach and gives the listener a snapshot of a misty reality of the late hours once peaktime has begun to fade.It features cuts from Objekt, Photek, Jega, Jan Jelinek, Two Full Minds etc. Record Label: Fabric Style: Techno

Nina Kraviz, Siberian-born singer, producer, songwriter and DJ, has a predilection for the idiosyncratic edge of electronic music. In 2015 she was invited to participate in the esteemed ‘DJ Kicks’ series. The trippy sound she was becoming known for led to the creation of her label трип (trip). Fabric 91 is pieced together from a series of live takes. Techno, IDM, electronica, ambient and acid are woven together here. It includes collector’s rarities like AFX’s Fork Rave as well as some of Nina’s favourite but less known acid stompers. Examples of under-exposed Russian 90s IDM and electronica feature too. Every track is either a classic rarity or unreleased. Stashed with surprises and evolving sounds, this is not a predictable affair. Record Label: Fabric Style: Electronic

Innovative Bristol duo Kahn & Neek step up for ‘FABRICLIVE 90’, a 74 minute refined grinding grime and dubstep mix. It features 14 unreleased tracks exclusive to this release. The duo debuted at fabric playing at a Butterz night and have since taken over Room 2 with their own Bandulu Records label. The mix, recorded at Kahn’s house in Bristol, includes a number of their own productions, collaborations and remixes; heavyweight selections from The Bug, Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Commodo and Gantz, music from Young Echo collective artists Jabu, chester giles, Rider Shafique and ManonMars and exclusives by Ishan Sound, Gemmy and Lamont. ‘FABRICLIVE 90’ concludes with Kode9 & Spaceape’s timeless version of ‘Ghost Town’, an appropriate commentary on the current troubles facing the capital’s nightlife Record Label: Fabric Style: Dubstep

The latest instalment in the long-running series arrives in the wake of the club losing its license. Scuba, AKA Paul Rose, has mixed fabric 90. Rose looks to techno on fabric 90, which is due out on October 21st. The Berlin-based producer, whose beginnings are in drum & bass and dubstep, splices together more than 40 tracks on the mix, drawing upon work from Ricardo Villalobos, Donato Dozzy, Pearson Sound and Marco Shuttle. A Ben Klock track from 2006, released on BPitch Control, also makes an appearance. The announcement arrives almost two weeks on from Islington Council's decision to revoke fabric's license, triggering backlash from right across the electronic music community. A press release sent out with the mix explains that Rose was the last person to play at the club on August 6th, just before it was voluntarily closed by management following the death of two clubbers. Rose will donate all proceeds from the mix to the #saveourculture campaign raising money for fabric's legal costs. We caught up with Rose for a chat about his new mix. Obviously this mix comes at at tough time for fabric. What has the club meant to you over the years? I first went to the club in the few weeks after it opened. As a member of the audience it was a special place for me, especially in Room 2 on Fridays. As a DJ it's been Room 1 on Saturdays that I've really connected with. A key part of my development as a DJ was moving from playing on Fridays to Saturdays, that was an important symbolic step. As DJ booths go, Room 1 is extremely hard to beat and the fact that you're really close to the crowd but also separated by the grille that goes around the booth makes playing there quite a unique DJing experience. It's like being in a spaceship flying through a sea of people. Do you think the London club can/will recover? I really hope so. It seems like the reasons behind the closure don't have much to do with the official explanation and I'm optimistic that if the issue is put before a more impartial body then there'll be a favourable outcome. Was there any specific idea or approach behind the mix? I've done a lot of studio mixes since my last commercially available CD in 2011 and I've approached them all in the same way I would DJ in a club, which is also how I did my SUB:STANCE and DJ-Kicks CDs. So for this I wanted to do something a bit different, the details of which I don't think it's really necessary to go into. Let's just say it'll be obvious to anyone listening to it that it wasn't done on three decks and a mixer. Did the club itself influence the direction or sound of the mix? Not really, and obviously that would've been different had I known what was going to be going on now when I put it together. That said, it's a club mix and fabric is a real club. Hannah Wants has mixed Fabriclive 89, which is due out September 16th. The Birmingham-born DJ and producer says her approach to recording the 19-track selection was similar to the one she takes on her bi-monthly mixtape series. ("They start somewhere, go somewhere and end somewhere else.") Fabriclive 89 features five of her own tracks, including a collaboration with Katy B. The mix also boasts tunes from the likes of Alex Coulton, Claude VonStroke, How To Dress Well, Four Tet (in collaboration with Champion) and a Tale Of Us remix of Thugfucker. The next Fabriclive mix comes from UK duo Groove Armada. Fabriclive 87 is due out May 20th and sees Andy Cato and Tom Findlay mixing together 26 tracks from the likes of Move D, Skudge, Chez Damier, Nicole Moudaber, Tiga and Bicep. (The duo's own cut "Stevie Latenight" also makes it in.) "It's in Room 3 [at fabric] that we effectively wrote 'Superstylin',' or at least the idea for that track took serious shape," the duo say. "They were magical times, really. It's been amazing returning to the club, a sense of coming home. A lot of the people involved when we first played there are still involved, so it felt easy to come back, it’s an overused description but fabric is family." The pair add: "The mix happened between a Stoke Newington basement and a disused barn near Toulouse. As always for mixes, the preparation was thorough. That's a leftover from the era of the mixtape. Mixtapes were the stuff of life, a currency for getting gigs, girlfriends, or just distributing amongst mates for the love of it. But once you pressed record, everything had to be bang on for 45 minutes. There was no take two, no FX, no computer touch up. The flow and tuning of the tracks had to be right. But once you've done your homework, there comes the moment when the lights go off, the volume goes up and you do it for real. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it has to be human and have a vibe." Jesse Rose sprinkles plenty of tunes from his two labels, A-SIDED and Play It Down, throughout his 20-track selection. "I was in the middle of a six month tour of the world when I was asked to do the mix, so I was constantly finding decks in the middle of the night in these far-flung locations, to have a mix and make sure it had the right feel," he says. "I actually ended up mixing the compilation in New Jersey, Los Angeles and Sydney. Although I mixed it in three parts which I later stitched together, it was mixed live as I wanted it to represent how I would play in the club, to sound personal to what I do and not computerised." For the first time in the series' history, a vinyl LP featuring tunes from the mix will see release via Fabric Records. Fabriclive 83 has been mixed by Logan Sama. The KeepinItGrimy boss and long-time grime DJ has compiled a selection of 24 instrumentals featuring 66 MCs, including Novelist, D Double E, Ghetts and Flowdan. "To be invited to record a Fabriclive mix was a great honour," Sama says. "I wanted to make a real statement so I called up the producers I have been supporting over the last couple of years and asked them to create something special for me. I spent several months collecting acapella bars and went about building a sonic collage over my instrumental mix." The quadruple-vinyl version of Fabriclive 83 contains all 24 instrumentals that feature on the CD and digital versions. Sama adds: "Vinyl has always been an important part of grime history. It gave us the power to get our music out to the public without having to be tied in to the mainstream music industry. Being able to make our own music and then press it up directly onto vinyl was so pivotal to the growth of grime for many reasons. When I was a teenager growing up and getting into DJing something like this would have been exactly what I wanted, it’s great to be able to give people a package like this." Mathew Jonson has recorded the 84th fabric mix. A live recording of the Canadian's show at the London club's 15th birthday will see release in October. He was wearing a full body Japanese bunny suit while performing, in keeping with the club's loose birthday fancy dress theme. The recording opens with a tune from Cobblestone Jazz, a trio featuring Jonson alongside Danuel Tate and Tyger Dhula. From there Jonson populates with his own tracks and remixes, including a large dose of unreleased material. "The first time I was invited to play at fabric it kind of felt like a confirmation that my music career was real," Jonson says. "It's just one of those few clubs in the world that everybody knows about and respects. I write special live shows every time I get booked, as it feels like it's always the right time to drop new music and edits." Record Label: Fabric Style: Techno/House

Joris Voorn has mixed fabric 83. The Dutch DJ weaves together 65 tracks from the likes of Robert Hood, Howling and Plastikman, with as many as five tracks playing at any given time. In addition to his own tunes, he's drawn on music from the likes of Plastikman, Robert Hood, Speedy J, Howling and Deepchord. The creative freedom I have when working in Ableton allows me to edit, mix and remix tracks in ways you can’t do with turntables or CD players, he says. Tracks are often used as building blocks in the form of loops and samples in order to create something completely new. Tracks are usually stripped down or minimal-sounding to allow for layering and mixing with other tracks. The result is a mix that is more than the sum of its parts. The drum & bass duo power through 39 tracks in 68 minutes on their mix for the London club. Ed Rush and Optical have mixed the 82nd edition in the Fabriclive series. "When fabric first came along, the incredible soundsystem blew me away, and it was really exciting and flattering to be part of that from the early days," say the longstanding drum & bass duo. "And even now there is nothing else to contest it, it's incredible to look at the track record and how long it's been going for—you just can’t fuck with that, it's unreal. The mix is a selection of what we play at the moment and the way we play it—fast, furious and highly energetic. It's a good representation of all of the amazing music and talent that is in our scene at the moment." Together the pair work their way through 39 cuts in 68 minutes. Selection-wise, they've drawn on a variety of exclusives, unreleased tunes and a couple of older tracks. Four specially-commissioned exclusives from the mix are now exclusively pressed to a pair of 10”s, each limited to 300 copies. ‘Sampler 2’ sees Mancunian bass heavyweight Acre’s ‘No Signal’, whose throbs and growls generate one of the early apexes of Mumdance’s ‘FABRICLIVE 80’, whilst highly-regarded New Zealander Fis turns in ‘Branch Light’, whose sinister, murky atmospheres could be a field recording from a deserted spacecraft. Joseph Capriati has mixed fabric 80, due for release on February 16th. Capriati has made his name as a purveyor of techno and tech house—he's a resident at Marco Carola's Music On party in Ibiza and released an album, Self Portrait, in 2013 via Adam Beyer's Drumcode imprint. fabric 80 reflects those tastes, with Capriati selecting tunes from labels like Drumcode, 100% Pure, Ellum Audio and CLR. You can hear soundclips over at the fabric website. "I recorded the mix live in my studio with two CDJs and a mixer, like if I was mixing at fabric," he says. "I made a tracklist with various techno and tech house tastes, with some vocals and melodies included, like a journey at fabric, passing from Room One to Room Two and going back to Room One for the last track, which is melodic and emotional, like if it was 9 AM and the club was going to close, and you will never forget that night." The fabric 80 launch party will take place on Saturday, February 21st, with Capriati joined in Room Two by Phil Kieran and Terry Francis. Record Label: Fabric Style: Techno
