Move D aka David Moufang steps up for the latest in fabric’s compilation series, fabric 74, due late February 2014. Moufang is one of modern electronic music’s most beloved souls with a long and varied musical history with roots in 60s and 70s jazz, psychedelic, rock, soul and early electronica. Making his first appearance on vinyl as part of a school bands competition in 1983, it was only another four years before he started toying with the medium as a DJ, playing funk, soul, hip-hop and proto-house. In the 90’s things began to move fast with the inception of his Source Records imprint, early productions (including the debut Move D LP ‘Kunststoff’ – Source Records, 1994) and the beginnings of a 26 album relationship with close friend, the late Pete Namlook. Since then, Moufang has become an unassuming heavyweight in house music as a producer for countless forward thinking labels, a collaborator and a truly original selector. “The first time I heard about fabric was through an old friend: Peter (Baby) Ford - it must have been the early2000s - way before I ever got booked to play there. He told me about fabric being the only good club left in London, supporting the underground scene, which by its nature made the event something very special to me, and it still is. Popular DJ and producer Boys Noize is the next in line to put together a mix for Fabric’s popular FABRICLIVE series, and from the looks of the tracklist it’ll be a goodun. As if remixing Daft Punk, David Lynch and Depeche Mode wasn’t enough, the young producer has recently been working with Skrillex, Snoop Dogg and Chilly Gonzales and there’s a sense that there are even bigger things to come. This mix certainly goes some way to prove he’s not forgetting the little guys though, with the tasteful inclusion of Kingdom, Randomer, Jimmy Edgar and more alongside slack-jawed bangers like Mr Oizo’s Marilyn Manson-sampling ‘Solid’ and Dave Clarke’s ‘The Compass’. Boys Noize says it best himself: “I really tried to sum up my two to three hour set in 70 minutes. My sets usually include many styles and at some points I mix pretty fast too. I play some jackin’ house and techno with crazy energy stuff and then go back to reduced dub or even classic electro or breaks. Cassy's fabric 71 mix will be released on August 17th.Cassy Britton's status as a DJ is hard to rival: she currently holds residencies at four top clubs—Panorama Bar, Trouw, Rex Club and Output—and used to work behind the counter at famed Berlin record shop Hard Wax. "The tracks on the mix all represent what I love about electronic music, and what I love playing," she says. "Simply, each track is individually beautiful–there is not much more to add." Her 17-track effort includes tracks from Norm Talley, John Talabot, Basic Soul Unit, Emptyset and Marco Zenker among others. fabric 71 will be Cassy's fourth commercially released mix, following 2006's Panorama Bar 01 and two subsequent efforts for Cocoon. She adds: "The project has come at a perfect time for me in terms of me being able to communicate where I am at artistically. I have aimed to get back to the roots of what this should be about for every DJ—namely playing records for the love of playing records—and not because of anything else." The CD launch party will take place at fabric in London on Saturday, August 17th, with Cassy playing alongside Craig Richards, Basic Soul Unit and more.

Friction has mixed the latest instalment of Fabriclive, to be released on July 22th. Although he's earned a reputation as an accomplished DJ in the world of drum & bass, these days Ed Keeley is probably best known as head of the Shogun Audio label. Home to Rockwell, SpectraSoul, Alix Perez and others, Shogun has been pushing both traditional-style drum & bass, as well as encouraging its roster to experiment outside the boundaries of the genre, for almost a decade. No stranger to mix CDs, Keeley's Fabriclive 70 effort comes after discs for Shogun and Ministry Of Sound among others. In a press release, he describes the mix as "how [he] would play to a more knowledgeable drum & bass crowd... who are really deep into the scene." Judging from the tracklist, the CD shows off the more aggressive and dance floor-oriented side of Shogun Audio, and also includes tracks from other prominent imprints like Critical, Ram and Commercial Suicide. Packed with a number of new and upcoming Shogun Audio selections, the mix brings together tracks from the likes of Icicle, Enei, Nymfo and Total Science, plus a handful of lesser-known newcomers.

Apollonia have mixed fabric 70, due for release June 17th. Although the trio of Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom and Shonky only officially formed Apollonia in 2012, they've been close friends and collaborators for more than a decade. The call their music "black music and white soul," citing Prince as a primary inspiration (the name Apollonia comes from one of the Purple One's many female muses). Since joining forces, they've launched their own record label and toured heavily, playing back-to-back-to-back sets at clubs across the globe. fabric 70 was recorded over a six-week period at the outfit's Berlin studio earlier this year. "The mix is a reflection about of our culture and how we play, and it's a really good mirror of who we are and what we do, mixing the old school stuff that fits in really well at the moment, with some brand new music," they say. They've included two new Apollonia tracks made specifically for the mix—"Trinidad" and "Visa Americain"—as well as a mixture of '90s deep house from the likes of Mood II Swing and newer material from The Mole and Ryan Elliott.

Fake Blood has mixed the latest instalment in the Fabriclive series. Theo Keating started releasing music as Fake Blood in 2007—previously he was best known for his work as one half of The Black Ghosts alongside Simon Lord. Fabriclive 69 will arrive around six months on from the release of Cells, his debut album as Fake Blood. "I went for combinations and blends that seemed a little odd on paper, but to me worked really well sonically—to keep it surprising rather than too linear or working towards some kind of crescendo," says Keating of the mix. "It's more about regular moments throughout than building to the last tune." The 30-track selection includes newer material from Paul Woolford's Special Request project, Brodinski, Drums Of Death and French Fries alongside older cuts, such as Nightmares On Wax's "Aftermath" and "Jam The Mace" by House Syndicate, and a sprinkling of Keating's own material. The launch party for the mix will be held at fabric on Friday, May 10th, with Fake Blood billed to play alongside Paul Woolford, Boy 8 Bit, Attaque & Le Breton.

Sandwell District have mixed Fabric 69. The collective, which has included Regis, Function, Silent Servant and Female, began in 2002 and went on to establish itself as one of the past decade's most important techno outlets. After ceasing operations as a record label at the end of 2011, both Regis (Karl O'Connor) and Function (Dave Sumner) have continued to fly the Sandwell flag with live shows across the globe. The outfit continues to communicate with its fanbase via occasionally cryptic images on its Tumblr page—recently it posted a photo with the words "Sandwell District is dead." Fabric 69 is the first official Sandwell District release since the acclaimed 2010 album Feed-Forward. The mix, which has been compiled by Function and Regis, contains a number of original cuts and remixes from the collective's members, as well as material from the likes of Factory Floor, Planetary Assault Systems, Carl Craig and Laurent Garnier. "The mix was essentially an extension of Dave's working procedure and mindset he had got himself into while recording his artist album [Incubation] for Ostgut," Regis explains. "I outlined some sections/tracks that I thought might work with his, [then] I sent him rough 10 minute drafts for him to listen to and try and work into the main flow. The final mixdown was done by Dave, as he had gone over the whole mix hundreds of times fine tuning the detail, it made sense for him to execute the mix proper." Function meanwhile described the mix as "encapsulating an era and putting it to rest."

Loosely rooted in house but with minimalism coursing through its veins, Petre’s sounds have often come in conjunction with fellow Romanians Raresh and Rhadoo on the trio’s own A:rpia:r imprint: it’s fitting really, as their sound is so idiosyncratic that it deserves a platform all of its own. Similarly, that Petre Inspirescu has exclusively used his own unreleased productions for fabric 68 makes perfect sense. Petre’s recent and newfound love and appreciation of classical music permeates the deep structures and rhythms of fabric 68. Everything about the music that makes up the mix is long and liquid, silky and sinewy, with myriad different bass, instrumental and percussive threads wobbling and scurrying their way along. Each track tells a story or depicts a cinematic scene, be it the deft sound designs and slowly emerging grooves of opener “Lumiere”, the way candle lit pianos on “Anima” melt into the dark underlapping rhythms of the mysterious “Chosen” or the more nervy and unsettling moments of “Flurimba” where sweet but somehow desolate strings hang in the air above tumultuous kicks and synthetic sparks to mesmerising effect.

Klock is invariably introduced as a Berghain resident, having been a core member of the family surrounding the Berlin club since it opened in 2004. Along with like-minded artist Marcel Dettmann, he played a big part in shaping the signature sound of Berghain's downstairs room: galloping, uncompromising techno, often delivered in stretches of eight hours or more. But Klock's artistry is by no means restricted to that single club—his profile has shot up internationally over the past few years, and he's proven an ability to make his sound work in venues around the world. Fabric 66 shows a slightly different side of Klock. “I didn't want to include any of my ‘hits’ from my sets this time," he says.
