Франц Шуберт — великий австрийский композитор, один из основоположников романтизма в музыке. На диск вошли такие шедевры Шуберта, как «Форельный квинтет», квартет «Девушка и Смерть», Фортепианные экспромты, «Незавершённая симфония». Легендарная мелодия "Ave Maria" представлена несколькими инструментальными вариантами и вокальным исполнением Лучано Паваротти. Также несколькими исполнениями представлена не менее знаменитая Серенада из цикла «Лебединая песнь». Композитор прожил недолгую жизнь. На его памятнике выгравирована красноречивая надпись: «Смерть похоронила здесь богатое сокровище, но ещё более прекрасные надежды».

Born in Elberfeld, now part of the city of Wuppertal, in 1888, Knappertsbusch was Music Director at the city’s opera house before he went, via Leipzig and Dessau, to Munich, where he eventually succeeded Bruno Walter as General Music Director. He was no fan of the Nazi regime, however, and so he left Munich and went to Vienna to conduct the Philharmonic and opera, returning eventually to Munich, where he died in 1965, after conducting his last Bayreuth Parsifal the previous year

On 22nd September 2018 the Staatskapelle Dresden celebrated its 470th jubilee. The orchestra was directed by Bernard Haitink from 2002 to 2004. (Haitink turns 90 in 2019.) Principal Conductor since the 2012/13 season has been Christian Thielemann. Founded by Prince Elector Moritz von Sachsen in 1548, it is one of the oldest orchestras in the world and steeped in tradition. Over its long history, many distinguished conductors and internationally celebrated instrumentalists have left their mark on this one-time court orchestra. Previous directors include Heinrich Schütz, Johann Adolf Hasse, Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Wagner, who called the ensemble his “miraculous harp”. The list of prominent conductors of the last 100 years includes Ernst von Schuch, Fritz Reiner, Fritz Busch, Karl Böhm, Joseph Keilberth, Rudolf Kempe, Otmar Suitner, Kurt Sanderling, Herbert Blomstedt and Giuseppe Sinopoli.

Yevgeny Alexandrovich Mravinsky was born according to the Julian calendar then in use in Russia on May 22, 1903 (June 4 according to the Gregorian calendar predominant in the West), the son of an aristocratic lawyer, in the city known then and now as Saint Petersburg. Two aunts played decisive roles in the life of Yevgeny Aleksandrovich Mravinsky. The son of an aristocratic lawyer was born in St Petersburg on May 22 (according to the Julian calendar of the Russian Orthodox church, though according to the western Gregorian calendar the date is June 4), 1903. One aunt was the celebrated soprano Yevgeniya Mravina, and the little Yevgeny probably learnt something about musical theatre from her. The other aunt was Aleksandra Kollontai, and she would prove extremely useful in enabling him to follow the profession he had chosen

Для одних Шарль Гуно - один из величайших оперных мастеров, для других - создатель "Ave Maria". В связи с тем, что 17 июня исполняется 200 лет со дня рождения великого француза, появилась прекрасная возможность ощутить все многообразие творчества этого мастера, который при жизни был одним из самых известных композиторов родной Франции.

Помимо знаменитых опер, в "Издании Гуно" собрано множество открытий - песни, церковная музыка, месса "Сесилия" и малоизвестная оратория последнего времени "Mors et Vita". Уже "Ave Maria" намекает на это: Гуно с ранних лет хотел стать священником. Став лауреатом Римской премии, он пережил "Вечный город" в религиозном экстазе. Посещение более светских городов - Вены и Лейпцига - привело к крушению его духовных планов. В Париже он отпраздновал триумф операми "Фауст" и "Ромео и Джульетта".

Но строгая инструментальная музыка продолжала оставаться его уделом: среди прочих сочинений он написал две симфонии и "Маленькую симфонию" для духового сонета. Своей монументальной мессой "Цецилия" он создал музыкальный памятник святой музыке. Martinu;, son of a bell ringer in the small town of Policka in Bohemia, was doubtless inspired by the view from his church tower! In 1923 he went to Paris for a few weeks which turned into seventeen years, then fled to the United States at the outbreak of war. Roussel had turned him into a master of counterpoint, inventor of the neo-baroque concerto grosso, where innocent chamber music is transformed into a devastatingly powerful hue and cry, which only a handful of musicians have managed to render - namely Munch, Ancerl, Kubelík and Bélohlávek, who introduced the dense, highly inventive repertoire to a wider audience. After the throbbing polytonal violence of 1937, Martinu; shifted towards a more luminous lyricism along the lines of the Fantaisies symphoniques he dedicated to Charles Munch. This is a tribute to his early conductors.
