Not to be confused with Bobby Steele of The Misfits mid 80's American band of the same name, the UNDEAD from Bristol were one of the main names in the ever-growing late 70's Bristol punk scene, along with such names as Vice Squad, Disorder, and Chaos UK. After a demo tape in 1981, they signed to Riot City Records and released their debut 7" in 1982, which reached number 18 on the UK indie chart. After a second single in 1983 and several live appearances they recorded the Killing Of Reality' LP in 1984 and soon imploded without leaving much trace. One of the best hidden treasures of the whole §K82' era, finally back on vinyl with both A-sides from the aforementioned singles included as bonus tracks!

TWISTED is a garage-punk band that started out as Jon Mohajer's bedroom project in Porthcawl, South Wales in 2008. When Jon packed up and moved to Leeds for university, he took TWISTED with him, and after pulling together a group of assorted miscreants (all of whom now play in HOOKWORMS), played a slew of gigs and put out a couple of 7"s in 2009 and 2010. In 2013 the relentless draw of Rest Bay's swell finally pulled Jon back home, where the reset button was hit on TWISTED and a new line up was formed with old Welsh friends;
Nick Russell, Chris Thomas and Livi Sinclair. The debut LP, §topia' was recorded a stone's throw from the sea in Porthcawl, summer 2014. TWISTED sings about the existential crisis in its bones. It is terrified of the tremendous force of love. It knows about being young and lost, the push and pull of pleasant towns. TWISTED is angry at street harassment and the stigmatisation of mental health. TWISTED take influence from many eras of punk's history;

Mysteries is vividly emotional and sonically expansive, blending the very best of indiepop with complex song structures, lush production and beautiful arrangements. Tigercats combine the talents of songwriter, singer and guitarist Duncan Barrett with his brother Giles on bass, Laura Kovic on keyboards and vocals, and Jonny Evans on drums, as well as recent recruit Paul Rains from Allo Darlin' on guitar. And on Mysteries they're joined by living legend Terry Edwards (Gallon Drunk / Tindersticks), who contributes saxophone and trumpet on several tracks. Tigercats have toured across Europe, playing at Primavera and appearing on Spanish TV, while back in the UK they've appeared at both Indietracks and End of the Road festivals. They've also toured in the USA and Canada, their last trip culminating in a headline appearance at NYC Popfest. Mysteries is the 2nd album from Tigercats, described by The Sunday Times as "a very, very good band.. The kind of band that make you want to be a teenager again, so they can be your band." Debut Isle of Dogs fizzed with jangly punk, afro rhythms and spoken word sections, while Mysteries is a sophisticated pop record, effervescent and spirited, with care and love poured into every song. What makes a very, very good band even better? 2 years of heavy touring for one, bringing them closer as a band but also pushing themselves and honing their skills. Many of the songs on the album have been live staples, starting off one way and mutating in to something totally different, giving the songs time to grow and develop before heading in to the studio. And once they did head in, bassist Giles Barrett's day job at London's legendary Soup Studios allowed the band nearly unlimited time to get deeper in to the recording process - so deep that it verged on insanity. As Giles says, "We took every song as far as it could possibly go. Highlights include album opener "Junior Champion", a pop gem in the shape of bishops, knights, kings and queens - a Bobby Fischer-referencing love song and anthem for chess fans everywhere - and "Wheezer", of which Duncan says cagily, "I don't want to say what this song is about, the record's not called Mysteries for nothing. Although this one is just a small, silly mystery and it should be pretty easy to work out - the clue is in the title". The album closer, the gorgeous, woozy "Wendy & Lisa", sees Duncan referencing another of his musical obsessions, saying, "This is the result of reading too many terrible Prince biographies and conflating The Revolution's private lives with my own in dreams. Although Duncan is the vocalist for most of the songs, Laura takes the lead on two, the dreamy Saint Etienne-esque "Laura & Cesar" (based on two minor characters in Roberto Bolaño's novel The Savage Detectives), and the forthcoming single, the fabulous "Sleeping in the Backseat" Mysteries is the sound of a band of outstanding musicians fulfilling their potential and using their talents in the studio to realise their musical vision, retaining their infectious hooks, their heart and their sheer danceability, and coupling it with a bright new contemporary sound. Superbly crafted and full of personality, Tigercats' second album suggests that they won't remain a mystery much longer.

Entitled Citizen Zombie, it’s due out on February 25th, 2015 via Freaks R US, the same label that recently reissued two of the Group’s compilation albums, We Are Time and Cabinet of Curiosities. The 11-track effort is the band’s first LP since reuniting in 2010 and is the follow-up to 1980’s For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder?. It was recorded over the course of two years by all four original Pop Group members, who collaborated with Grammy-winning producer Paul Epworth (Coldplay, Adele, Florence and the Machine). While the pop specialist Epworth may seem like a strange choice for the band, who are known fusing elements of post-punk, funk, dub, and free jazz, it turns out they’re all mutual admirers who found quite a bit of in-studio chemistry. “From his work with Phones [Epworth’s early solo project] onwards, I’ve loved his work and think he’s one of the world’s best producers,” singer Mark Stewart said in a statement (via Rolling Stone). “He gave us the freedom to create and, with his help, destiny rides again for The Pop Group.” Epworth, meanwhile, hailed the group’s recording process, explaining, “The energy is still there, the ideas are still there, it still fizzes with a life that most young bands just don’t have.”

Kapitel" is the debut recording from the Russian, Swedish, but Copenhagen based Mischa Pavlovski, with a previous history in Posh Isolation punk and metal bands, his solo debut offers a very diffferent take on sound although in equally dark territory. Kapitel is a monolithic piece of minimal, ambient techno and it is quite beyond grasp how this could be someones debut, with an incredible ear for composition and timing it offers four tracks, each track leading on to the next with heavy bass pulsing, distant desolated melodies, paranoid ambient soundscapes, with an underlying steady kick binding it all together. With a running time of almost 40 minutes it still manages to keep its listener captivated from when the first kick enters to the moment the last synth runs out. Drugs, anxiety, club lights turning off one by one, dreams experienced awake, rather than sleeping.

180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley is Robert Palmer's debut solo album, released in 1974. It was his first effort after three album releases co-fronting the band Vinegar Joe. Palmer is backed by The Meters and Lowell George of Little Feat. The album peaked at #107 in the U.S. according to the Billboard 200 chart. Before becoming a slick, sharp-dressed Pop star in the 1980s, Robert Palmer was a soul singer deeply rooted in R&B and Funk. Those influences are on full display on his debut, recorded in New Orleans, Louisiana, New York, and Compass Point Studios in Nassau. The music has a laid-back groove whether Palmer's covering New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint (the title track) or singing originals ("Hey Julia" and " Get Outside"). While the music is tight and solid, it is Robert Palmer's voice that is revelatory -- he sounds supremely confident among these talented musicians, and they seem to feed off his vocal intensity. MOURN is a very young quartet formed from the friendship of Jazz Rodríguez Bueno and Carla Pérez Vas - both born in 1996 in El Maresme, Catalonia, Spain. The duo armed themselves with inspiration from PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Sebadoh and Sleater Kinney and began writing material, which they quickly released, raw and acoustic, on their YouTube channel. These recordings caught the attention of their homeland's Sones Records. Despite being teenagers, earlier this year they came out of the studio (along with drummer Antonio Postius and bassist Leia Rodríguez) with a brilliant treatise of indie rock that has stunned those who have had the opportunity to listen to it. Jazz (18), Carla (18), Leia (15) and Antonio (18) came together to present these tracks with authenticity and self-awareness beyond their age. With the confidence only residing in youth, the Mourn debut was recorded live in the studio in two days, proof of which is in their live-in-the-studio videos for singles "Otitis" and "Your Brain is Made of Candy." Both tracks perfectly capture the bands' affinity for the brevity of The Ramones with the lyrical and melodic sophistication of The Pixies. Isaak, born from the ashes of Gandhi's Gunn, immediately signed a worldwide contract for two albums with the American label Small Stone Records: the critically acclaimed debut "The Longer The Beard The Harder The Sound" released in 2013 and a second one that is going to be recorded very soon.

For their latest spiritual odyssey, Moloney and Moore-in his triumphant return to the Northern Spy imprint after 2013's Record Store Day exclusive The Only Way To Go Is Straight Through with fellow guitar luminary, Loren Connors-deliver the volcanic and violent maelstrom, Full Bleed. But unlike the helter-skelter out-jazz of Caught on Tape ("Full bore savage highway stuff, the mind exploding with wall melting emotion," says Moore/Moloney about that platter), a set captured during a European junket and split into two untitled marathons, Full Bleed collects nine Herculean sludgefeasts dripping of gnarly metal-damaged heaviosity and punk-jazz skronk-splattered fury, transmitted in an alien language only this duo can convey. "They became songs as they were played," Moore/Moloney explain about their writing process. "Composed on the fiery tongue, like how all real cool improv needs to be experienced." And as far as assigning actual names to the songs? "We titled them to identify them as distinct 'songs' because that is what they need to be to survive in this fucked landscape of politician dung patrol. They became snakes." First proper studio album/widely distributed release from the pairing of Thurston Moore and John Moloney (sometimes known as Caught On Tape). The music is heavy and noisy, yet bears the unmistakably poignant touch of the Sonic Youth mastermind and Sunburned Hand Of The Man legend. After their critically acclaimed debut album Look and Behold (2011) and follow-up Monstrorum Historia (2013), Lo!, hailing from Sydney, Australia, are back with a new EP: The Tongueless. 2014 was a big year for Lo! In Australia: the band supported Trivium, In Flames, Corrosion Of Conformity and Torche, to name a few. Besides the massive live presence on their continent, Lo started working on new material, immediately after the departure of former vocalist Jamie-Leigh Smith in late 2013. "Stylistically I aimed for a harsher, more venomous tone as Lo!'s voice", says new vocalist Sam Dillon. "Lyrically I was looking towards themes of extinction and mankind's extreme ignorance towards creatures. The track 'Orca' was inspired by the 'Blackfish' documentary highlighting the history of killer whales in captivity." The songs were originally put together starting with drummer Griffin and guitar player Whitbread instant messaging drum licks and guitar riffs to flesh out ideas... between Hong Kong, where Griffin lives, and Sydney, where the rest of the band is based. The Tongueless was recorded at Adversary Studios in Sydney, mixed by Whitbread himself and mastered by Brad Boatright from Audiosiege (Old Man Gloom, Nails, Baptists). "We kept the recording process as natural as we could - the drums were all tracked live without a click with all of us in the same room", says Whitbread. "We tried to rely on as little processing as possible and really paid attention to nailing the sounds we wanted at the beginning. Vocal wise, Sam prefers to use a handheld mic when recording so we used that approach this time which really added to the natural vibe." One of the refreshing things about this band is the way they weave different styles of music into their own, heavy garment: there are plenty of faster parts, relentlessly driven by heavyhitting rummer Adrian Griffin's extraordinary playing, but there are also slow, doomy, atmospheric passages that suck the listener deep into Lo!'s dark cosmos. "Lo! have come to remind you of glorious times, times when Mastodon were using samples of Jurassic Park to kick off their records", Metal Hammer (UK) wrote about Lo!, and TheMusic.Com.Au adds: "Lo! are our scene's finest proponents of sludgy hardcore and live are akin to a cinder block to the cranium." The band will soon release a video clip for the track Orca, produced by bass player Adrian Shapiro himself, who is a well-known movie producer in Australia. "The video shoot was definitely more professional than we were expecting", says Whitbread. "When director Matt Divine approached us with his idea for the clip, we were expecting it to all be shot in someone's backyard on a Sunday afternoon. But of course Shapiro being a producer there was no way this wasn't going to be done properly and professionally. So we had a full camera and lighting crews, a massive sound stage complete with harnesses and a stunt coordinator." The clip will soon be premiered... watch out! After supporting Cult Of Luna and The Ocean in Europe in 2013, including a performance at Roadburn Festival, here's to hoping that the band will return to our shores with The Tongueless this year

Erik Hall worked patiently and solitarily for four years to craft Driver, his sophomore album as In Tall Buildings. The album comes twenty years after Hall originally fell in love with home recording at age 13 - the year he got his hands on his first multi-track recorder. As a multi-instrumentalist and producer Hall eventually went on to record and tour with several groups, including old friends His Name is Alive and, more recently, dream-pop duo Wild Belle, performing the rhythm section tracks and lending an engineering hand to their Columbia Records debut. In stark contrast to the dense polyrhythms echoed by his former group NOMO's albums, Driver uses a relatively simple palette to create spacious pop songs, leaving plenty of room for Hall's often Peter Gabriel-esque vocals to shine. The music is powerful in it's restrained simplicity, and a compelling foil to the haunting gravity of his vocal performance. Never rushed, his melodies deliver elliptical lyrics that manage to feel intimate, while retaining a sense of mystery. Fortunately, the album's melancholic vibe is relatable, rather than moping or histrionic, and ultimately these songs are incredibly inviting and comforting
